There are two airports in Cairo:
1. Cairo International Airport (CAI) (bigger and more reliable), and
2. Sphinx Airport (SPX).
Both airports offer domestic flights to other cities.
To check out closer cities like Alexandria, we recommend traveling by bus through "GoBus".
For friends who are planning a longer trip to Egypt and want to explore other cities, we have included some suggestions below:
Alexandria

What to do in Alexandria:
1. Bibliotheca Alexandrina
- Modern library and cultural center near the site of the ancient Library of Alexandria, known for its vast collection of books and exhibitions that celebrate Egypt's cultural heritage.
2. Qaitbay Citadel
- 15th-century fortress built on the site of the ancient Pharos Lighthouse, offering panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea and a glimpse into Alexandria's maritime history.
3. Catacombs of Kom el-Shoqafa
- A historical necropolis showcasing a blend of Egyptian, Greek, and Roman architectural styles, famous for its unique spiral staircase and intricate burial chambers.
4. Mermaid Monument
- A prominent statue in Alexandria that symbolizes the city's connection to the sea and its maritime traditions
5. The Royal Jewelry Museum
- A museum housed in a former palace, displaying a stunning collection of jewelry that once belonged to the Egyptian royal family, offering a glimpse into the opulence of the past.
El Gouna
(6-8hrs by bus, 1-2hrs by plane)

What to do in Luxor:
1. Karnak Temple
- one of the largest ancient religious sites in the world.
2. Valley of the Kings
- Tombs of pharaohs, including Tutankhamun's, carved into the desert cliffs.
3. Luxor Temple
- visit the Avenue of the Sphinxes.
4. Hatshepsut Temple
- located on the west bank of the Nile River near Luxor.
5. Hot Air Balloon
- offers panoramic views of the Nile River, Valley of the Kings, and surrounding desert landscapes.
Aswan
(12hrs by train, 1-2hrs by plane, and
3-5hrs by train from Luxor)
What to do in Aswan:
1. Philae Temple
- Dedicated to the goddess Isis, it was relocated to Agilkia Island due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
2 Abu Simbel
- Temples built by Ramses II, relocated to higher ground to save them from flooding.
3. The Aswan Botanical Garden
- known as Kitchener's Island, and is located on an island in the Nile River near the center of Aswan.
4. Nubian Villages
- located along the Nile River, mainly between Aswan and the Sudanese border. Take a felucca to get there and participate in traditional Nubian customs such as getting henna tattoos and having hair braids done with colorful threads and beads.
5. A Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor
- popular way to explore Egypt's ancient sites along the Nile River, including temples and tombs.
